Song meaning

Not An Addict has a simple message behind it: both the mindset and the condition of addiction is a disease that can be healed, and is not an identity to be kept. The song is inspired by Connor’s daily commute across Massachusetts Avenue (Methadone Mile) to train at a boxing gym in South Boston. “Everyday I see people using, suffering, and sleeping on the concrete” said Connor when asked about the song. “I wrote it from that perspective. I’ve never been an addict (hence the title Not An Addict), but have met & seen many.” Some say that role of artists is to stand for voices unheard, and the journey Connor takes his listeners on in Not An Addict is an embodiment of that role. The video also comes in a pressing time for people all over the world, as the Coronavirus forces sickness, isolation, and temptation on thousands of lives.

Artist bio

In an era of cultural confusion, environmental uncertainty and political division, the sound of Massachusetts rapper, producer, and guitarist Connor Cassidy cuts through the noise as a voice of reason and a breath of fresh air. Tackling issues as concrete as opioid addiction and as esoteric as spiritual enlightenment, he uses his music to express his deepest insights and social observations. With the charisma of a comedian, the hunger of an outsider, and the performance intensity of a fighter, his blend of lyrical and guitar-centric rap/soul music imprints his listeners with the motivation to pursue growth and healing in all areas of their lives.

Connor gained his first recognition in 2019 upon releasing "Guillotine," a trap centric record that quickly found its way into Boston’s nightlife Hip-Hop scene. He’s set to release his debut album, PHOENIX during the summer of 2020.
